I came across star numbers on twitter and had a little play. I drew these different arrangements of counters.
I thought about how some of these showed the star numbers made up of square, triangle and hexagon numbers. Here are some statements that I thought of while making the images above.
This star number is equal to the 10th triangle number plus 3 lots of the 3rd triangle number.
This star number is equal to the 7th square number plus 4 lots of the 3rd triangle number.
This star number is equal to 2 lots of the 10th triangle number take away the 4th hexagon number.
How else could you describe the star number?
